Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. The NBC 5 Salvation Army Angel Tree program provides an opportunity for the personal touch as shoppers can select an Angel Tag at an area mall. Each Angel Tag provides the name, age, gender, clothing sizes and special needs and wishes of a needy child, senior or disabled adult. Caring individuals select one or more of the angels from the tree, then purchase gifts from the list and return the unwrapped gifts to the Angel Tree. Donors may purchase the need, the wish, or both.

Within your school - There may be a family or families that are in need of provision for a Thanksgiving meal or Christmas gifts for the kids. What a great opportunity for your FCA Huddle to reach out and meet their special need.

These are just a few and there are many more possibilities. Have fun and we look forward to hearing about your experience!!!

2010 Testimonials

Rockwall HS FCA huddle held a bake sale in September to raise money for those in need for the holiday season. "From donations and the bake sale, we raised $1000 to go shopping with. We went shopping at Walmart to buy clothes, jewelry, electronics, and sports equipment for teens in need for Christmas. The gifts were then taken to a church in Mesquite where families will be able to come pick out gifts for their children. Below is a picture of the kids after shopping at Walmart."

Curtis Middle School in the Allen I. S. D.  does a community service project called, Shoot’n for Socks. "We do this event every year on the last day of our first semester. We collect socks for the needy. Each student must bring one pair of socks to get into the game.  We have students  bring in their socks and we give them two tickets, we have them write their name on them and then we put one ticket in a separate jar and they keep the matching  half. Before the game starts we draw a ticket from a jar,  the student with the matching ticket gets to choose four friends,  to sit on a sofa court-side and eat pizza. Our 8th grade basketball teams play against each other with coed teams. It’s a fun, carnival atmosphere, with 3 point competition and cheerleaders performing!"

Schrade Middle School FCA
has been sponsoring Operation Christmas Child for about 8 years in a row. This year we collected 93 Christmas gift boxes. It is a joint project with Student Council and National Junior Honor Society. It is a great chance to share with the entire school about the hope given to children around the world through the "power of a simple gift".

Frisco Heritage HS FCA helped put boxes of food and toys together for families for Christmas through the Frisco Reach Out Program at the Word Center Church in downtown Frisco.

Garland HS FCA huddle collected money to buy turkeys and then give them to the First Baptist Church's Friendship House. "The Friday that I delivered our 6, a gentleman told me that they had serviced 270 families that day. During December we collected a case of Ranch Style Beans that will be donated to Freeman Baptist Church pantry. And many of our students live in the churches neighborhood. We are buying for two senior citizen angels off the Angel Tree."

Centennial FCA decided to sponsor three “angels” this year. The “angels” are students within Frisco ISD whose parents cannot afford to provide Christmas presents for them this year. We got all of the wants and needs for all three of our angels covered including an Ipod, soccer cleats, a nice HEAD tennis racket, and lots of clothes. We also found out that one of the English teacher’s angels needed a bed and bedding. Her classes did not raise enough for this big item so our FCA students and parents were able to save up enough for a twin bed, mattress, and bedding for this student to have a place to sleep over the holidays.

The Princeton High School Huddle of FCA has adopted an 8-year-old boy from the Angel Tree Program organized by Princeton ISD. The FCA students will provide clothes, including a new coat, jeans, shoes and shirts, as well as toys for this Christmas. His family will also receive food, including a ham and a box full of non-perishable items for their pantry. In addition, the Huddle took up a collection to assist a mission project through Samaritan's Purse. Their money will be used to provide mosquito nets for a village in Africa, as well as baby chicks for a village so they will have a means to sustain themselves by raising chickens which will provide food and eggs to sell.
