Huddle Coach of the Year

Recipients of the Female and Male FCA Huddle Coach of the Year awards were announced at the Coaches Appreciation Dinner held in November. Coaches Julia Butler and Greg Reed were honored for their outstanding dedication and service to FCA, their students and their community.

Julia Butler - Frankford Middle School

Julia teaches Physical Education and coaches Basketball and Track in the Plano ISD. Julia has been a faithful Huddle Coach at Frankford Middle School for 11 years.  The Huddle has 50 members that attend regularly on Wednesday Mornings at 7:45.  She has a great team of Coaches that help her in the Huddle Ministry as well as parents.

She is an active member of the Plano FCA Adult Chapter, helping with the Plano FCA Coaches Night Out as well as the Plano FCA John Clark Leadership Run.

Julia attends 1st Baptist Church in Allen.  “Being a huddle coach has grown me personally as a faithful follower of Christ by the testimonies of the kids, through the fellowship with wonderful adult leaders at my school and through the adult chapter.  I am constantly blessed by the leadership of the students and their commitment to serving the Lord through FCA.  And it is FUN!  We have a blast every time we meet to praise and worship the Lord.”

Greg Reed - Waxahachie High School

Greg teaches Spanish and coaches football and track. He has coached football for 15 years, 12 at Waxahachie and 3 at Highland Park. During those 15 years, he has also served as an FCA huddle coach. “ What I love about FCA is influence.  One of my favorite items in my home is the influence picture that Coach Randy Allen gave me of the young boy wearing the number 18 jersey, standing and watching a group of young athletes praying in a circle.  It hangs in my oldest son’s room and I frequently remind him about what the picture represents and our responsibility as Christians.  I have enjoyed seeing the Waxahachie huddle grow in the last few years and seeing former FCA captains like Jimmy McNeal and Boomer Collins go on and influence the lives of others positively through Jesus Christ.”

The Waxahachie High school FCA Huddle meets every other Wednesday from 8:00-9:00 PM at the homes of various student-athletes. The Huddle is led by Greg Reed (Varsity Football Coach), Rick Solis of GC Sports Ministry, and several student leaders;  Captain- Bridget Collins and Officers- Randy Starnes, Jory Hamilton, Samantha Martin and Jose Constancio. Meetings average about 65 athletes from various sports.

The Huddle is very involved in the community as well as FCA events such as SMU Gameday and fundraisers to help send kids to various FCA camps. The Hachie Huddle invites all students to attend the FCA meetings on Wednesdays nights.
