And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

It is hard to believe that another school year has passed.  The camping season is in full swing and summer has officially set in at the McMahan household.  As I look back on the school year, I can only think about what the verse says in Hebrews 11:6.  I can honestly say, as long as I seek Him, He rewards.  That has been evident this year in the Southeast Area of the Greater Dallas Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  I have also come to find and believe that the word “faith” is an action word…it is a verb.  Our faith is supposed to be active.

This year, we had more FCA huddles participate in FCA Gives Back than last year.  That is huge.  Just to give you an idea, here are some examples:

·         Waxahachie High School – worked with the Common Ground Ministries Toy Drive and Fall Festival, helped maintain the Common Ground Ministry facility this summer, and volunteered at the GC Sports Ministries camps.

·         Mesquite High School – raised money on their campus and donated over $600 to Convoy of Hope International for the Earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.  Convoy of Hope, through matching grants, turned that $600 into $2400 toward the efforts.  That is huge in itself, but they weren’t through.  The Skeeter huddle teamed up with Habitat for Humanity and CLife Church and helped build out a house for the HfH organization.

·         Kaufman High School – adopted elementary school kids and their families for Christmas and provided gifts, groceries and cooked meals for underprivileged families in the community.

This is just a glimpse of what has happened through FCA Gives Back.

The year was packed with FCA events with over 500 decisions for Christ at SMU Gameday, two weekends at Sky Ranch for Weekend of Champions, Frisco Roughriders Game Night, and of course, the 33rd Annual Tom Landry Open.  However, something that we are excited about that is new for the 2010-2011 year is the Character & Leadership Initiative.  FCA is teaming up with the the Flippen Sports Group, led by Coach Brad McCoy and High Impact Life with  Dr. John Tolson, the Dallas Cowboys Chaplain.  With this initiative, emphasis will be placed on Coaches and Student-Athletes by launching different leadership tracks.   This initiative will launch the Coaches Leadership Academy.  Flippen Sports knows the biggest hurdles that coaches face and will help them overcome those hurdles.

For Student-Athletes, opportunities to develop leadership skills will come from “Winning with Character” and “Character Counts for Athletes” curriculum along with the launch of the Sports Leadership Camp for High School Athletes along with presenting One Way 2 Play—Drug Free for every middle, high school and College in Greater Dallas.

I am excited about what has taken place and what is going to take place.  I look forward to serving Christ and seeing the rewards He will give out…
