End of the Year Report 2009 – Southwest Area
Cedar Hill, Dallas, Duncanville, Forney, Grand Prairie, & Irving ISDs.
As the first half of the school year comes to a close, it’s incredible to look back and see God at work in each element of the FCA ministry. The area that God has given me is big but I know He is bigger and can do exceeding and abundantly more” than I am able to do on my own. Here are just a few highlights:
Campus
With new schools desiring an FCA “presence” on their campus, the opportunity to see new huddles established has been a blessing. The Irving MacArthur huddle continues to impact students on weekly basis by being consistent in using FCA resources such as huddle curriculum, One Way 2 Play programs, as well as developing student leaders to lead this huddle. North Forney High School, a new school with coaches who have led huddles at other schools, started strong and continues to have a visible presence on campus. Students are coming to Christ through the various huddles in the Southwest Area. Please pray for more coaches to be involved in the FCA ministry.
Coaches
Huddle Coaches are the driving force behind the campus huddle. There are many who have served as a huddle coach on the same campus for over 5 years. Anna Coulter, Rhonda Odom, Dianna Knight, Shannon Wilson, Charles Richardson, and Dan Coggins have remained faithful to serve students throughout the highs and lows of the coaching experience and have a great passion to see students on the Middle School level come to know Christ personally. Most of their students do not attend church but have received the message of Christ each week in their huddles.
Camps
We are looking forward to the 2010 Weekend of Champions in February. We are expecting over 800 students, 200 college athletes, and 120 coaches to be a part of this yearly event. This year, we will be offering two exciting weekends for huddles to choose from; February 19-21 and 26-28. Our speaker will be Kyle Embry, Director of Youth Alive Campus Ministries. The worship band will be led by Doug Schmidt, student pastor of Firewheel Church. Please pray for these two weekends.
Community
With an area that provides great opportunity for local leaders to be involved and is impossible for one person to reach on their own, we have what we call “Character Coaches” who come along side us serve to lead Coaches Bible studies as well as serving as team chaplains for various teams where we have FCA huddles. (Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Forney, North Forney, Grand Prairie, Molina, South Oak Cliff)
This year we currently have 8 people serving in this capacity. In addition to this, Dallas Baptist University has committed to serving huddles in the area. DBU athletes are serving each week on six different campuses to assist huddle coaches in their efforts as well serving as role models to middle school students.
Personally, my wife Anhel and 2 year old daughter, Sophia and I will be moving into our new home on December 15. We’re excited about this new stage of our life as well as what God is doing through us in FCA.
