In the gospel of John, Jesus asks an interesting question.  He asks two men who were following him, “What are you looking for?”  After they respond that they were curious as to what He was about, Jesus replies, “Come, and you will see.”  These men hung out with Jesus that day, and their lives were forever changed.  The next day Jesus spoke to Philip and said, “Follow me!”  This is how Jesus picked His team then, and I firmly believe He is drafting new players everyday in a similar manner.  I remember trusting these words of Christ in the summer of 1987.  I have, by God’s grace, followed Jesus for almost 23 years.  I think often about the words “Come, and you will see.”  I cannot express in words what I have seen because of my decision to follow Christ.  He has faithfully delivered on His promise that He came to give Life, and Life to the full.

So, what exactly have I seen in my time with FCA?

I have seen a former coach share about his regret of losing his focus during his 17-year career in coaching.  I listened as he very emotionally described how he lost credibility with his family, players, and community because he began to seek that which is temporary (wins, championships, and trophies) more than impacting his players for Christ.  He stated that he never kicked, punched, and verbally abused any of his players, but that he was guilty of something far worse.  He shared that he just stopped caring about and loving his players.  He humbly desires to coach differently and seek the Lord and His glory over his own.

I have seen a coach be “Christ” to her students after one of her athletes tragically died in a Spring Break skiing accident.  It’s amazing how the separation of church and state is lifted temporarily during a crisis like this.  FCA has favor on this campus, and God has used FCA to bring comfort and hope to these hurting middle school kids.

I saw over 500 kids trust Christ for the first time at our SMU Game Day where more than 1500 middle and high school gathered for a time of fellowship and football.

I saw a select group of high school students serve hundreds of middle school students at our Weekends of Champions where several hundred kids trusted in Christ for the forgiveness of sins.  We held two weekends this spring because of the huge turnout of campers.  We had over a hundred college-aged students serve as well as the Huddle Leaders for our campers.

I witnessed about 150 students believe in Jesus at our Texas State Leadership Camp this summer in Abilene.  Both Texas camps have sold out this summer and literally hundreds of lives have been changed through these camps.

I have seen students receive Christ during their FCA meetings at school, and many others grow in their faith because coaches and teachers love God and His people on their campuses.

I have seen the spiritually dead come to life.  I have seen the spiritually blind see clearly for the first time.  I have seen spiritual paralytics walk in the newness of life that Christ promises.  I have seen the spiritually indifferent choose to align with the King.  I have seen relationships restored, hearts rekindled, and lives redeemed.  I had no idea the words, “Come and you will see”, included all of this.
