It's that time of year again, and I find that it has gone by altogether too fast! My wife and I welcomed our first child this year. Almost immediately, we were immersed into a whirlwind of chaos that included diapers, bottles, and late nights… Most of you have been there before! Even now, 3 months in, the strains of early parenthood are completely overshadowed by the intense love, gratitude and awe that we feel. Just one little smile from that rascal, and the previous long night is forgotten!
It has been my pleasure to have taken on two new school districts in the 2009-2010 school year, Lewisville ISD and a portion of the Dallas ISD. This year in Lewisville, all 21 campuses in the LISD have active FCA huddles. Over 350 students committed to the FCA One Way to Play Drug and Alcohol Free Program. Over 75 coaches in this district have committed their time outside of the classroom, field, or court to the service of FCA via huddle leadership, pre-game chapels, and Bible studies. The Adult Chapter is incredibly committed to the community of LISD, and has supported many coaches and students involved with FCA programming, including FCA-SMU Gameday and the Coaches Dinner this fall semester. I have enjoyed meeting many of the community leaders, parents, coaches, and teachers of this school district, and look forward to building our relationships and growing the influence of FCA.
“We want our kids and coaches involved with FCA It’s a part of what we do in LISD.”
Randy Mayes - AD/LISD
In DISD, we are starting a new adult chapter to help oversee the spread and influence of FCA in this school district. The enthusiasm felt by these community leaders, parents, coaches, and teachers has been a blessing both to myself, and to the FCA home team. Within the portion of the school district that I oversee, there were over 125 students that committed to FCA One Way to Play Drug and Alcohol Program. We are looking forward to great things from this district in the future, stay tuned!
As the FCA College Ministry Director, I also oversee 7 colleges and universities in the DFW Area. This year, over 500 students and student athletes & coaches have been influenced by FCA’s ministry via pre-game chapel, Bible studies, huddles, and leadership/character development series. In the spotlight this semester, Dallas Baptist University’s FCA Huddle has committed their efforts into building the FCA ministry of Conrad Middle School, by sponsoring their Huddle and leading it weekly. Similarly, the FCA huddle of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University has greatly influenced their community by their involvement with the area middle schools and high schools. We continue to have a strong FCA Huddle and student-athletes bible study at SMU.
